Palo Santo Peru – Holly wood – Bursera Graveolens
Palo Santo – Bursera Graveolens, a tree originating in Peru, picked up from the dry forest; it is the natural wood incense that has an exquisite aroma; has been used in ceremonies and rituals by the Incas, but also by others indigenous cultures as a spiritual remedy for healing, purify, clean and remove negative energy.
It grows in the Peruvian dry forest, especially in the Provinces of Piura and Cajamarca, pick up only from authorized areas by the government; but the Palo Santo only can work as a sacred wood if it has a natural death and is collected over 4 years of his dead (after this time it shows his real properties).
How Palo Santo is collected?
Every year Peruvian government gives an authorization to use areas of Palo Santo, It is regulated by a special document called in Spanish “Guia Forestal” or Forest document; this document is required to export Palo Santo but also companies require another permit by the Ministry of Agriculture to handle forest products.
After obtaining this permit, we can pick up Palo Santo from authorized area, them is cut in the little trunk by local people and send until our company located in Lima.
